New Prada Cup
The America’s Cup community attended Yacht Club de Monaco last week at the unveiling and launch of the Prada Cup, designed by Marc Newson (AUS) and hand-crafted by a consortium of Florentine Silversmiths. The Prada Cup will replace the Louis Vuitton Trophy, awarded to the winner of the Challenger Series in preparation for the 36th America's Cup ('AC36') in 2021.
2021 America's Cup Schedule:
The main event takes place in Auckland, New Zealand from 6-21 March 2021 between the 'Challenger' (Prada Cup Winner) and the current AC holder 'Team New Zealand' of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. The preliminary World Series events are being held in 2019 (two events) and 2020 (three events) plus an additional Christmas Regatta in December 2020. The Challenger Series (Prada Cup) events are being held in January and February 2021.
The 75ft flying 'AC75’ foiling monohulls will be launched from March 31st 2019 and the first World Series event will take place in Cagliari, Sardinia next October. Each team can launch two boats, the second boat no sooner than 1st January 2020. The two boats cannot be sailed on the water together, excepting those from Team New Zealand - during the Challenger Series.
Maison Mumm will be returning after 35 years as Official Champagne Partner.
